Hello, I come shaking your hand with a good heart! My name is Jennifer Eastman but my given name is Star Shawl Woman. I am from the Sicangu Lakota Oyate otherwise known as the Rosebud Sioux Tribe of Rosebud, South Dakota. i am happy to be here. My blood comes from Bad Nation and Lakeview here on the Rez. I am currently a paraprofessional aka teacher aide for 4th & 5th grade working with our Native youth. I am taking classes at Sinte Gleska University, our Tribal college here on the Rez, going for my degree in Lakota History & Culture to continue our culture in the classroom. Our culture is sadly but true not being taught as i think it should during our youngest years and i want to be one that teaches them their language and culture along with their history.

i live in beaverton oregon, i moved back to oregon from the sunny bay area 15 yrs ago, i grew up listening to hip hop,i am also a student of the native flute, and also a retired professional boxer, right now i train fighters, i co-started the beaverton pal boxing team 10 years ago- we have top elite nationally ranked amateurs and olympic hopefulls, simply put - i am in love with the sport of boxing,my favorite boxing event of the entire year is traveling down to the warm springs rez for coach smiths treaty days boxing event. i am only a quarter cherokee, my grandfather and my native side comes from the oklahoma area.i wish i knew more about my native roots but my grandfather joined the marine corp during WW2 at the age of 15, my grandfather served 30 yrs in the corp so he never returned to his native culture, his name was my grandfathers name was dorse, im not sure what he did in order to join the marines at age 15, but we think his name "dorse" was shortened of merged from something else. my grandmother was german and irish, my dad dident grow up with native traditions like my grandfather did so the culture being passed down to me was semi lost with my grandfather, however i am 25% native and no one can tell me what i am, or what i am not. i am a proud even if i am only a small part.

Howka everyone! My name is Samantha and I'm a tribal member of the Iipay Nation of Santa Ysabel down in Southern California. I'm living in Southern Oregon the past four years, and loving the climate, people and low population! I'm single parenting 2 beautiful girls, Nova 7yrs, and Lyra, 5 yrs. I find great joy in organic gardenening and am trying to eat as healthy as possible and live with as little impact on mother earth as possible(though we're far from leaving no footprints). Just found out I'm borderline diabetic(the Doctor says I AM insulin resistant, but I refuse to be ;0), and realize I need to set a better example of proper nutrition and physical activity for my little ones. So far I've lost 30 punds and countin' and lowered my blood sugar dramatically! I solemnly believe that wheat and sugar are completely toxic to the native body! I think those of pure European descent may have a much easier time with those foods but that if you have some native blood, you're gonna become overweight and/or very sick from those processed and refined foods. even after so many centuries, we just aren't adapting to this raped food. I always like to think "What did our relations do back then?" i think with some tribes(really all people's ancient tribes) there was an unbelievable amount of enlightenment and believe we can tap into genetic memory to bring some of that back into being.

I would love to see Natives embrace the true meaning of oneness with the earth and creation by adopting healthier lifestyles, eating organic foods, more raw foods, true stewardship of the rez lands(ALL land), and an openness to cultural changes/additions. Not to say we should forgot our traditions, but I see that a lot of us divide ourselves from the rest of the human race and completely identify ourselves with being native instead of human as well. I'm currently reading and rereading the teachings of Eckhart Tolle and work to attain balance in spirit, mind and body to further humankinds state of presence. To help all experience true joy!

I hope to make some new friends, here in Southern Oregon, as I do miss my rez and friends and family there. I've got no native friends up here and miss the ties.;0(

Blessings of OneLove!

Samantha

Hello, my name is William Morningstar Birdsong and I am an enrolled member of the Blackfoot Nation (Montana) (half blackfoot/english) I'm old enough to have been around the reservation for a day or two back in the day, I live way out in the country, hunt, fish and grow my own smoking material, who said a country boy can't survive! Anyway I hope this site stays around for awhile.
